Who says you can’t live forever?

An article published in The New York Times highlights the interesting health benefits of olive oil and the Mediterranean Diet, specifically on the elderly men and women of Ikaria, an island in the Aegean Sea between Greece and Turkey, where many of the residents live well into their 90s and 100s.

The writer, Dan Buettner, who was visiting Ikaria as a subject for his study on centennial-aged populations of the world, met a former U.S. resident and Greek war veteran on the island. The veteran, named Stamatis Moraitis, had been diagnosed with lung cancer some 35 years earlier, but still stands alive and well as a testament to the Mediterranean Diet’s benefits, especially the anti-aging effects of olive oil.
