Olive Oil Lover’s President, Joanne Lacina, congratulating Paolo and Gionni Pruneti of Frantoio Pruneti

Flos Olei, Marco Oreggia’s annual “Guide to the World of Extra Virgin Olive Oil”, recently held their “Best 20″ 2014 award ceremony and tasting event in the center of Rome to honor the winners of the prestigious prize.

Olive oils and their producers highlighted in the “The Best 20″ section of the annual guide are recognized not only for their outstanding organoleptic qualities, but also for the high standards and dedication each farm demonstrates in producing a quality product. A numeric score, labeled as “Farm Ranking”, is also given to each farm featured in the guide from 80 (Good) to 100 (Really Excellent).

At Olive Oil Lovers we see first-hand the level of dedication and passion each producer has in creating ultra-premium olive oil and are we are proud and thrilled that five of the producers featured on OliveOilLovers.com were recognized for their efforts in “The Best 20″. The prize winners whose products we feature on OliveOilLovers.com are as follows:

Frantoio Pruneti’s Frantoio pressed from the single-variety olive grown on their estate in the heart of Chianti Classico in Tuscany was awarded the prize for “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Organic Farming with PDO/PGI [certification]” and received a Farm Ranking of 97.

Galgón 99’s Oro Bailen pressed from single-variety Picual olives grown on their estate in Andalusia, Spain was awarded the prize for “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Quality/Quantity” and received a Farm Ranking of 97.

Quattrociocchi’s Olivastro pressed from single-variety Itrana olives grown in the Lazio region of Italy was awarded the prize for “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Organic Farming” for a second consecutive year with a Farm Ranking of 98.

Castillo de Canena’s Royal pressed from the rare “Royal” variety in Northern Andalusia, Spain was awarded the prize for “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil Monovarietal” in the “Light Fruity” category and received a Farm Ranking of 98.

Frantoio Franci's Villa Magra, pressed from Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olives grown on a single estate on their farm in central Tuscany, was awarded the prize for “Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil” in the “Varietal Blend” category and received a Farm Ranking of 98.

Those of us at Olive Oil Lovers have seen first-hand the tireless efforts each producer applies to pressing some of the best extra virgin olive oils in the world and wish each one a heartfelt congratulations!

About Flos Olei:

Flos Olei is the title of an annual olive oil project created by Marco Oreggia and Laura Marinelli. The project is, in part, an international competition to address the world’s best olive growing farms and a guide book to the world’s extra virgin olive oils. The guide is published to describe, popularize and promote the producers and their oils that excel in quality-specific categories and is meant to be a tool for the consumer to better understand the world of quality olive oil production.

The competition includes an assessment of the olive oils conducted by a panel of taste experts through rigid tasting and identification of organoleptic profiles. Only oils that meet the panel’s quality standards are published in the guide.
